Our Orchestras

Recruiting at the JFHS winter concert 2015. Don’t forget – we almost always have openings for brass, woodwinds, and percussion!

Lynchburg Symphony Youth Orchestra
The Lynchburg Symphony Youth Orchestra is a full symphonic orchestra comprised of high school as well as some advanced middle and elementary school students from Central Virginia. Most of these student musicians have had previous ensemble experience, participating in their string orchestra or school band. Acceptance into the LSYO is by audition. Auditions are held twice a year in September and in February.  See current seating placement.  Please call 434-845-6675 if you are interested in joining the LSYO.

JS members watch the LSYO during the Sounds of the Season concert at E.C. Glass H.S.

Junior Strings

The Junior Strings program is designed for those young musicians needing to further develop their musicianship skills in order to participate in the LSYO. As members of the Junior Strings program, students build note reading and rhythmic skills, learn how to play in an ensemble and follow the conductor’s beat patterns and various musical signals.
